Pacific Impact Zone carried out a biomanufacturing technical experiment (TX) with the United States Marine Corps 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment 3d Littoral Logistics Battalion Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit on March 13, 2026 at Marine Corps Base Hawai’i in Kāne’ohe, O’ahu.
This TX showcased how biomanufacturing strengthens resilience for downrange operations in austere and disconnected environments by locally sourcing feedstocks found in Hawaii and across the Indo Pacific.
During the experiment, the EOD team evaluated products manufactured from material sourced from the PIZ team and local industry partners, spanning a range of sources such as Albizia, bamboo, and basalt. Shaped charges, ballistic blocks, and a group I UAS were fabricated and demonstrated to INDOPACOM, OUSW, and AFRL stakeholders.
