Distributed biomanufacturing for contested logistics
VERITY
Manufacturing resilience closer to the point of need.
VERITY is a distributed advanced manufacturing capability that combines locally sourced biomaterials and an AI-powered orchestration tool to mitigate the tyranny of distance and contested logistics across the Indo-Pacific.

The mission problem
In the Indo-Pacific, distance is an operational constraint.
Traditional supply chains assume that replacement parts, repair materials, and specialized components can move reliably from centralized sources to the point of need. In a contested environment, those assumptions become vulnerabilities.
01
Long distances
Centralized production may be thousands of miles from the operational requirement.
02
Constrained movement
Transportation, supply routes, inventories, and conventional materials may all be limited.
03
Readiness consequences
A missing component can become a mission-level readiness problem.
The question is whether the right part can be produced, validated, and used where and when the mission requires it.
The capability
A distributed manufacturing orchestration solution—not just a printer, material, or end product.

Choose the right response under current operational conditions.
VERITY connects locally sourced biomaterials, advanced manufacturing, AI-enabled technical data, and quality assurance into a complete operating capability.
The objective is not to recreate the industrial base at the tactical edge. It is to determine which components can be produced locally, how processes remain viable under constrained conditions, and what system is required to do so reliably.
VERITY guides the forward warfighter to decide between repairing, manufacturing, or ordering critical materiel items while considering current operational conditions.
The capability
Use materials available closer to the point of need.

VERITY enables locally sourced feedstocks to be converted into useful manufacturing materials and mission-relevant components.
This approach could reduce dependence on imported feedstocks or constrained conventional materials while creating a more adaptable, distributed manufacturing base.
01. Local resource
Identify viable feedstock closer to the operating location.
02. Manufacturing material
Convert the feedstock into usable material.
03. Mission component
Produce and validate an output tied to mission demand.
How VERITY works
From readiness constraint to an orchestrated response.
01
Identify the readiness constraint
Identify components, materials, or repair requirements whose unavailability creates meaningful operational risk.
02
Determine what can be produced or repaired forward
Evaluate technical requirements, material availability, manufacturing processes, operating constraints, and validation needs.
03
Create adaptable technical data
AI-enabled technical data packages translate component requirements into instructions that support distributed production.
04
Manufacture and validate
Produce, examine, test, and compare components against requirements established with the mission owner.
05
Orchestrate under contested conditions
Guide the forward warfighter to decide whether to repair, manufacture, or order critical materiel based on current operational conditions.
Capability components
A complete system—not a single technology.
Partnership
State of Hawai‘i public-private partnership
A regional platform connecting defense requirements, public-sector participation, technical expertise, and commercial manufacturing capability.
Technical data
AI-enabled technical data packages
Technical information structured to help the forward warfighter produce, evaluate, and use components closer to the point of need.
Prototype work
Mission-relevant structures and systems
Work to date has included unmanned systems, ballistic structures, and shaped charges.
Validation
Controlled field experimentation
Testing designed with the DoD sponsor and requirements owner to evaluate the complete manufacturing system under relevant conditions.
Field experimentation
The manufacturing system must work outside the laboratory.
VERITY validation is conducted through controlled field experiments developed with the DoD sponsor and requirements owner. These experiments evaluate more than whether a machine can produce an object; they examine the full chain.

Bring us the logistics problem
Contested logistics cannot be solved by shipping the same supply chain farther.
